Intelligence is bliss

I decided to start a blog and the only name that came to mind was INTELLIGENCE IS BLISS. I hate the "ignorance is bliss" saying. To me it represents a celebration of mediocrity.

Obama Celebration

Lets open the lines for this story... it could go anywhere, politics, race, football, touchdown celebrations.

Brandon Marshall scored the game-winning touchdown tonight for the Broncos on a late TD pass from Jay Cutler. Afterwards, he reached into his pants and pulled out a glove for what looked like a pre-planned celebration, but before he could do anything, teammate Brandon Stokely ran over to Marshall begging him to stop. Following the game, Marshall explained his thwarted plan to the NFL Network crew.
To celebrate Barack Obama's election, Marshall said he wanted to take a page from John Carlos and Tommie Smith's black power demonstration at the 1968 Olympics. Only, 40 years later, Marshall planned to salute the progress made in the country since the Mexico City Games. The 24-year old Broncos receiver wanted to put on the glove, half-white and half-black, to hold up in triumph. It would have been his tribute to racial harmony. But, fearing a 15-yard personal foul that almost certainly would have been called by the refs after such an event, Marshall's teammate put a stop to it.
Said Marshall:
"It [wasn't] about black power, it's not about white or black, it's about U.S.A. red, white and blue. But Stokely came over and said it's too close a ball game."
And, really, isn't that what America's all about: life, liberty and the pursuit of conference victories

Alright Let me start this off....What a crock of shit? Brandon Marshall your a fuckin liar. This move touchdown celebration would have been all about black power. Now i mean now disrespect to John Carlos and Tommie Smith... as a matter of fact I consider their award ceremony to be the single best moment in Olympic history. But Mr. Marshall I would like to ask you...Had Barack Obama been white, would you still have considered and planned such a controversial touchdown celebration.... I think not. I can see right thru your ass, your are as transparent as McCain for picking a female running mate. So lets call this foiled attempt of a touchdown celebration what it really is ... a celebration for the first African American President.

Ok. I havent seen the footage or read any article about the incident. And I prefer to do that before I make a full pledged statement but Ill just go by what you wrote. Im trying to figure out why it would be so hard to believe that the guy WAY actually making a statement of unity?? We cant even PRETEND to know what his intentions were. And Im afraid that jumping to any conclusion would only unveil and expose a clear view of OUR OWN mind frame and preconcived beliefs. but I would like to point out that Obama isnt a straight up"African American"......the dood is mixed and about as "black" as Wayne Brady. So he does truly represent UNITY because hes not "purely" white or black or any other color of the rainbow. I despise racism and those that endorse it just as I despise ignorance and the two go hand in hand. Obama winning this election helps my argument in that racism is on a SEVERE decline and the generation that embraces it is literally aging and dying out. Gotta give the football player the benefit of the doubt brotha.

Well beast we can agree that racism is on a decline, definetly. But back to the story... Brandon Marshall stated his intentions and his reasons (refer to the story). The fist rapped in a blaok glove thrown up in the air has a certain stigma to it. During the Olympics, 40 years ago, this action caused riots and from my understanding the two olympians were shunned and could not find jobs after this.

Brandon Marshall be original man, how dare you compare yourself to these olympians, with your 6 figure contract.--- with that said racism is definetly on the decline.

minority with a 5 figure job

Sigh to Pensive-

You're right, the 2 Olympians couldn't get jobs after the games. BUT if Brandon Marshall was intending to raise the fist to signify "black power"...I wouldn't see it as him COMPARING himself to Tommie Smith and John Carlos but more as an act of tribute or respect. Either way it's a touchy subject because he didn't go through with it so we GOTTA give him the benefit of the doubt. Just gotta.
